Sharing House Mercy Seat

The Mercy Seat transitional housing initiative exists to provide a safe environment for homeless women & their children in Transylvania County. This transitional housing initiative does more than offer shelter to the homeless; it provides them with a foundation to rebuild their lives. Mercy Seat participants must want to make the changes in their lives which will enable them to move from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

We work in cooperation with public agencies, businesses & community groups to give residents the support, counseling & training they need to start life over. The Mercy Seat transitional housing initiative allows homeless women to develop the stability, confidence & coping skills needed to sustain independence, self-sufficiency & permanent housing.

A case manager works closely with eligible participants to develop a stability plan which will guide them in prioritizing goals, identifying individual strengths & barriers, & embarking on a long-term plan for employment & permanent housing. We work with each client to formulate personal development plans, educational & vocational plans, financial & budgeting plans, & family & parenting goals.
