Community Outreach
 
Transylvania Christian Ministry - Sharing House cordially invites you to join hands together with our more than 150 dedicated volunteers in helping meet the real felt needs of people seeking crisis assistance. Our ministry philosophy at TCM - Sharing House is to encourage our neighbors to help neighbors with an empowering hand up not just an enabling hand out. Our local community earnestly needs your individual wealth of personal life experience & valuable professional knowledge. Please do prayerfully consider committing a small portion of your valuable time & energy in compassionate outreach to those in real need in our local community of Transylvania County.

Permanent Opportunities
 
Transylvania Christian Ministry - Sharing House permanent volunteers typically donate their time, energy & experiential life skills for about a half-a-day (4 hours) each week during the morning or afternoon shift from Monday through Friday by serving in one or more of these important areas listed below.
 
Reception Desk
 
Reception desk volunteers typically answer general telephone inquiries, greet people seeking assistance, answer general front desk questions, complete basic ministry documentation, & file personal information on the people served.
 
Interview Room
 
Interview room volunteers typically interview people seeking food, clothing, & some financial assistance in the areas of housing, utilities, transportation, household items, & medical assistance.
 
Food Pantry
 
Food pantry volunteers typically receive donated food items & other miscellaneous items, weigh & document donated food items, restock pantry shelves, & bag various food orders for people requesting food assistance.
 
Clothing Closet
 
Clothing closet volunteers typically selectively sort through donated clothing & household linens, recycle the undesirable materials, staff the clothing room desk, & assist people seeking appropriate items of clothing for their family.
 
Clerical Room
 
Clerical room volunteers typically perform general clerical & data entry duties relating to any of the TCM - Sharing House general correspondence & specific client information.

Periodic Opportunities
 
Transylvania Christian Ministry - Sharing House periodic volunteers typically donate their time, energy & experiential life skills for as many or as few hours as they desire during different times of the calendar year by serving in one or more of the important areas listed below.
 
Adopt-A-Family
 
Adopt-A-Family volunteers typically match Christmas adopters with adoptees, Christmas gift shop & gift wrap various items for Sharing House adoptees, & perform general clerical & telephone duties. This important volunteer opportunity begins around early November & finishes around late December.
 
School Supplies
 
School supplies volunteers typically advocate for donations of school supplies or financial gifts to purchase school supplies from donors, collect & organize school supplies, & assemble book bags with necessary school supplies for the children of low-income families attending Transylvania County schools. This important volunteer opportunity begins during the summer school vacation, & finishes around early September.
 
Bulk Mailing
 
Bulk Mailing Volunteers typically photocopy TCM - Sharing House bulk mail, sort & fold bulk mail, stuff envelopes, & attach labels & stamps. This important volunteer opportunity occurs periodically throughout the year: Newsletter (Summer, Fall, & Winter), Annual Report (Spring), & Special Appeal (May & September).
 
Special Events
 
Special Events Volunteers typically assist an appointed Special Events Volunteer Coordinator with the various tasks of organizing, facilitating, & fundraising associated with the special event that TCM - Sharing House has initiated.
