Who We Are

Sharing House is a community-based organization that leverages the time and expertise of hundreds of volunteers to meet the needs of under-resourced residents of Transylvania County. Founded in 1981 by a group of local congregations, we are now over 48 congregations and thousands of individuals and businesses who work together to alleviate the suffering of our Neighbors.

We serve housed individuals/families struggling to pay their bills, unhoused residents, the elderly and housebound, providing funds for utilities and rent, access to nutritious food, clothing, showers, and empowerment programs.

Our Neighbor-choice model centers the inherent dignity and discernment of all we serve. We are a safe and trusted space in the community where Neighbors come not only for services, but for a compassionate, heart-centered response.

As community catalysts, we make connections for neighbors to jobs, housing, and transportation. Our empowerment programs prepare Neighbors to serve as advocates and mentors for others.

General Assembly

Transylvania Christian Ministry is governed by voting delegates to the annual "General Assembly."  Since 1981, the Sharing House has been a collaborative outreach ministry of county-wide congregations of mostly Christian faith communities, and today includes communities from Jewish and Unitarian Universalist congregations.  This outreach into the community would not exist without the support of the following faith communities, who make up our General Assembly.
