brevard-transylvania housing coalition

Initiated by Sharing House as part of its strategic plan, the Coalition formed in response to the growing housing crisis in Transylvania County and the City of Brevard.

The coalition convened its first meeting in November of 2022 and meets monthly with a focus on breaking down the barriers of access for low and moderate income households. Members include leadership from local non-profits, congregations, government officials, and concerned citizens.

  • Regional/state-wide agencies (through our Faith + Housing Subcommittee): Duke Divinity School’s Ormond Center, NC Rural Center, Sympara, Inc.

Purpose/Mission

  • Information sharing between government agencies, nonprofits, congregations, citizens.

  • Collaboration and partnerships between agencies and organizations.

  • Resource-sharing and mobilization.

  • Advocacy (attending City Council and County Commissioner meetings; articles in T-Times).

  • Education (heirs property, eviction prevention).

  • Community engagement events.

The Coalition believes creativity, collaboration and inclusivity are what the community needs to create housing solutions. To prosper, all people and all places need housing for all income levels. Community members are welcome to get involved. Meetings are held the forth Tuesday of every month from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Transylvania Habitat ReStore Board Room at 692 Ecusta Road, Brevard.
