Sharing House is the place where our churches, donors, volunteers, staff, and neighbors gather together to practice acts of love and kindness.

Our Mission

Sharing House connects with residents of Transylvania County to provide crisis assistance and programs that cultivate lasting solutions to hunger and poverty.

Our Vision

Every person in Transylvania County has enough food and resources to thrive.

Our Core Values

Hope We believe our community can be a place where every person can thrive in body, mind and spirit.  We hope for a community where everyone has enough resources to reach their full potential.

Compassion We believe that it is our calling to share one another's burdens and joys.

Integrity We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.  We honor each individual's desire and search for future good.

Teamwork We foster a culture of teamwork where the contributions of staff, volunteers and neighbors are valued.

Empowerment We create a culture where neighbors can gain control of their circumstances and achieve their own goals, thereby being able to work towards helping themselves and others to maximize the quality of their lives.

  • The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name Put their trust in you, For you, O Lord, have not  forsaken those who seek you . ~Psalm 9:9-10

Racism is harmful to all in community. Transylvania Christian Ministry makes this public statement as both prayer and desire, to do all in our power to dismantle the power of racism. We grieve the loss of black lives in our country, and understand this to be another tragedy in a long history of oppression. At our core, Sharing House represents a beautiful array of diverse congregations and expressions of faith, and together in ministry we seek to serve those in our midst who struggle to have enough simply to live. We stand firm in our common core values, to treat everyone with dignity and compassion.

We embrace the contemplative stance that calls us towards action, where we show up, pay attention, cooperate with God, and work together to love our neighbors as ourselves.

We do so prayerfully and with intentionality, seeking to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit with wisdom and great care for each other.

We commit to the ongoing exploration and reflection of our own participation in racism and oppressive systems.

We commit to anti-racist reflection that will strengthen our awareness of systemic racism and strengthen our work towards justice.

We commit to internal and external channels of transparent accountability within our community, and within our organization.

We commit to the lifetime journey of becoming made in the Imago Dei, in the image of God, working with and for communities that uphold and protect the value and dignity of Black lives.

As siblings in the family of God, we believe when in wholeness, with the diversity of gifts through God’s grace, we can overcome the systemic sin of racism and injustice.  Along with listening and educating ourselves, we will strive each day to give a helping hand and to receive a helping hand, as all of us need help. We will do what we can to protect each other.

May God’s beloved community allow us to be led through this historic hour by those who know the way, who have been fighting this fight for their entire lives, who carry generations of racial discrimination and trauma in their lives and memories. May we listen with compassion to the stories and hold with respect the pain. May our hearts, our voices, our hands, our feet resolve to work together in cooperation with a God who loves us beyond imagination-- to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God.

May the Spirit equip us for the long road ahead, within, and among us.
